Brewing leaves directly in a glass
Loose leaves can brew directly in a suitable glass. This informal method needs a modest portion and a comfortable way to drink around the leaves.

Leaves stay in the drinking vessel
Brewing whole leaves directly in a glass removes the separate pot and basket from the routine. The leaves remain in the water while you sip, and more water may be added as the level falls. This is often called grandpa-style brewing in English tea discussions. It is an informal approach rather than a precisely timed extraction, so choose a tea whose flavour you enjoy as the contact continues.
Use a glass or mug explicitly suitable for hot drinks, with enough space above the fill line to lift it comfortably. A modest amount of whole leaf is easier to manage than a heavy portion of fine broken tea. Start smaller than you would for a concentrated short-infusion method. If the first attempt becomes too strong before you can finish it, reduce the amount next time rather than forcing yourself to drink faster.
Let the leaves settle naturally
Add water according to the tea's preparation guidance and give floating leaves time to become wet. Some will settle, while others may remain near the surface. Do not push them away with your fingers in a hot glass. A spoon can help you move a troublesome leaf once the drink is safe to handle, but if leaf fragments continually reach your mouth, a basket method may simply be more comfortable.
Top up with suitable fresh water before the remaining infusion becomes too concentrated for your taste. There is no need to keep a precise fraction of the original liquid as if it were a universal rule. Notice the balance between the tea already in the glass and the new water. The flavour will evolve, and each refill may be lighter than the last rather than an exact repeat.
Know the limits of the method
Continuous contact is not appropriate for every leaf or every drinker. Ordinary herbal and fruit products still need their specified boiling-water preparation and minimum steep; this casual glass routine does not override those directions. Keep the session fresh, use clean teaware and discard the wet leaves afterwards. If you prefer a stable flavour from the first sip to the last, separate the leaves with an infuser instead. Simplicity is useful only when it produces a cup that suits the way you actually drink.
